Hey everyone! Can you believe that Halloween is already over? I was wearing shorts yesterday…in Virginia! This year has gone by so quickly, but I’m super excited for the leaves to keep changing and for autumn to be in full swing (because we all know that fall outfits are the cutest).
Firstly, I wanted to give a little update on what’s been going on in my life this past month—and so much awesome stuff has happened that I don’t know where to start!
ALL OF THE PINK LINKS IN THIS POST ARE AFFILIATE LINKS; HOWEVER, ALL OPINIONS ARE MY OWN AND CANNOT BE BOUGHT! MORE INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND HERE.
I had a really great time going on a ton of adventures and trips with my friends this month, from attending the College Media Association’s convention in Atlanta, Ga., to some awesome fall-themed dates with Ryan!
Atlanta with two of my fellow reporters at my school newspaper was amazing—we got to meet hundreds of other journalism students from all across the United States, some who went to huge schools and even a couple who went to smaller schools like ours. We learned so much about writing, blogging, reporting, social media, and everything in between from renowned professionals from media outlets like CNN, The Weather Channel, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. We were super grateful for our school to pay for us to attend such an awesome conference and I think we all agreed that we learned a lot about our future careers!
Ryan and I also got to relish in the fact that it’s (technically) fall by enjoying a free trip to King’s Dominion this month (thanks so much to Maggie in social media for our free tickets and Fright Lane passes)! We got to skip 2+ hour lines—which made us feel sort of guilty—and we saw all the haunted houses and most of the Skeleton Key sheds. (I’m sure that all sounds crazy if you aren’t familiar with Cedar Fair amusement parks!) It was a great way to celebrate Halloween this year.
We also carved some pumpkins (although his turned out much better than mine…see photo), played paintball with a bunch of his coworkers, and celebrated our two-year anniversary!
It was such a fun and adventurous month for me—and I hope November is just as awesome!
Without further ado, let’s get on to my favorites from October!
“I Took A Pill in Ibiza / Youth” Mashup by Landon Austin & Taylor Leigh
I don’t even like the songs “I Took A Pill in Ibiza” or “Youth,” but I literally cannot stop singing this acoustic mashup. This was on my fall playlist, but I had no idea how addicting it would be. I’m constantly humming along to it on the way to class, and it gets stuck in my head just about every time I hear it. I can’t help it!
The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
What can I say—my professors pick out awesome books for us to read. I like to call this book a contemporary classic, because while Plath is (of course) a vital piece of the literary canon, it is written with simple, modern language that would be a breeze even for a young adult reader. The deeper meanings, however, make Plath’s only novel (ahem—roman à clef) a critically-acclaimed masterpiece. I don’t want to give it away, because I think it’s important that you really experience what Esther is going through for yourself, but to provide some context: Plath didn’t want this published at first because it resembled too closely her own life. Take with that what you will.

This Michael Kors purse!
I dug this old handbag up from my mom’s closet to take with me to Atlanta for the conference, and I have to say: it holds a lot more than you think. I fit my composition notebook, planner, pencils/pens, various make-up and toiletry items, my bulky wallet, a bottle of
soda water, a sweater, and a few more things in there—it was perfect for walking around the conference all day. I doubt that they still make this model anymore, but clearly it has lasted a long time, so it may be worth investing in Michael Kors!

FAVORITE BEAUTY ITEM:
Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear Foundation
I swear I’m not sponsored by Neutrogena—they just make awesome, affordable makeup! When my last foundation ran out, I headed to the store and tried to decide between this and the acne-fighting one. I chose this one, and I’m so glad I did! The label boasts that it lasts 12 hours, and I can totally attest to this. Plus, it’s less than $15 per bottle. Win, win!

FAVORITE BLOG POST
This blog post probably won’t interest anyone, but it really interests me—especially because it’s about what I’ve decided I want to pursue as a career! At the convention in Atlanta, there were a couple sessions about creative nonfiction as a career, both in terms of full-length books and even as features in newspapers and magazines. If you have any interest in learning more about this type of writing, be sure to check it out!
