If you looked at the feature image for this post, you already know the big news (it wasn’t a big secret)—I’m engaged!
And to commemorate this awesome moment on my blog for all of you beautiful people to read about, I’m going to tell you all about how Ryan and I ended up together, plus how he proposed (he’s amazing), and where we’re going from here (tentative, obviously). So let’s just jump right into it!
Ryan and I met 10 or more years ago (we don’t really remember). We went to elementary, middle, and high school together, and we live pretty close to each other and rode the bus together, but we didn’t really talk until he started high school in 2012.
Since then we became super close friends (and I often cried to him on the bus about how poorly my boyfriends-at-the-time were treating me), but everything was really platonic until the end of the summer in 2014.
Ryan got into a super bad car accident that totaled his car and messed up his back. I was on a date with another guy when I heard about it, and I made the guy I was with drive me straight to Ryan’s house so I could check on him. (Turns out, I was one of the only people who did!)
After that, he needed somebody to drive him to school, so he got up super early (because I had to be at school an hour earlier than everyone else for a class) just so I could pick him up on my way. We kept doing that for a while, and we had some pretty deep conversations during our drives, which sometimes took up to an hour round-trip.
It wasn’t long after that that my birthday rolled around and almost no one showed up to my birthday party (high school wasn’t the best time for me), so Ryan showed up and we actually had a ton of fun. (He remarked later that the only reason he played Just Dance with me was because he figured he’d never see my family again…that didn’t work out so well!)
We hung out more after that, going to arcades and taking walks on the trail by our school and such, and we ended up having such good times together that he asked me to homecoming that year! I gladly accepted, hoping just to go and have a great time with an awesome friend. But soon enough we figured out that we liked each other and on homecoming night, he asked me to be his girlfriend!
Since then, we’ve had tons of fun together. We both graduated high school, I went off to college and he decided to become an EMT/Firefighter. Over the last two and a half years, we’ve visited the museums in Washington, D.C., went to King’s Dominion more times than I can count, took a beach vacation together, hiked mountains…the list goes on and on!
I can hardly think of a time when we went a week without having a ton of fun together, and I can’t wait to continue that for the rest of my life.
HOW HE PROPOSED
Ryan is wonderful and awkward and dorky, and his proposal totally reflected that. It was Christmas Day, and we were surrounded by family and he just very simply asked the question, followed by hugs and tears and so much happiness. I might have also been so shocked I forgot to say yes at first, but that’s a whole other story.
Never mind the fact that everyone knew but me! (I’m usually really hard to keep secrets from, so congrats everybody.)
Ryan and I have been planning out our future for what seems like forever. We know we want to buy a nice house in or near the town we grew up in and have dogs, and maybe kids down the road. I’m graduating college at the end of the year, so we’ll have to see where that takes me job-wise, but I’ll probably end up growing my business and doing a little something extra on the side if necessary. Ryan’s graduating EMT-B in April and fire academy next April, so then he’ll be a paid firefighter! There are so many things going for us right now and we are so excited to be starting this journey together. And of course, I’m going to be blogging about the whole thing!
As could be expected, I’m going to do tons of wedding planning blog posts in the near future, so make sure you stay tuned to my blog to check out what I’ve been up to!
Thank you guys for your constant support and love throughout our relationship. I hope you’ve enjoyed following us along on our journey of a lifetime!
